On September 9, the grand opening ceremony of the international modern pentathlon tournament "Cup of the Strongest Athletes" - "P. Lednyov Cup Final" was held at the "Republican Center for Olympic Training in Athletics".The ceremony was attended by Nikolai Ivanchenko, a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the 5th convocation, a delegate of the VII All-Belarusian People's Assembly, a member of the Council of Elders of Minsk Region, a member of the Republican Public Association of Veterans, and honorary chairman of the Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation, Mikhail Prokopenko, chairman of the Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation, Olga Karpovich, executive director of the federation, Sergei Marchenko, director of the Republican Center for Olympic Training in Water Sports, a member of the board of trustees, Yuri Lenchevsky, director of the Unitary Enterprise "Beltekhosmotr", and Yelena Khromenkova, deputy director of the Republican Center for Olympic Training in Water Sports.
Nikolai Ivanchenko addressed the participants with a welcoming speech in which he noted the successes of the Belarusian team on the international arena.
"The geography of our competitions expands every year. I am confident that the hospitable Belarusian land will continue to open up new opportunities for the development of modern pentathlon as an Olympic sport. The guarantee of this is the enormous attention paid to sport and pentathlon by the head of our state, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko. I wish the athletes new achievements, the judges - objective officiating, and the fans - bright emotions and support for their favorite teams. May the strongest win!" noted Nikolai Mikhailovich.
During the ceremony, the certificate of Master of Sport of International Class was awarded to the athlete-instructor of the national team of the Republic of Belarus in modern pentathlon, Anastasia Oryol. Recall that in the current competitive season, Anastasia became the silver medalist of the European Championship in Istanbul in the individual event, and a two-time world champion (in the relay as part of a duo with Maria Gnedchik and in the team event of the world championship).
The festive atmosphere of the event was created by creative groups; activation zones were also organized for the guests of the event, where one could shoot from a laser pistol.
Recall that on the first day of the competitions, women will compete for berths in Friday's final, while men will enter the fight for a place in the final on Thursday, September 10.
