Places at the Sunday Individual Men's Final were played on the 21st of July at the competition venues of the Senior European Modern Pentathlon Championship.
The 53 strongest athletes, piercing shots of blades, speed and accuracy ... To all people who were lucky enough to witness this serious struggle, it might seem that we are already in the final and the athletes are fighting for places on the pedestal. Such a powerful was Friday's intensity of emotions.
However, the final emotions are still waiting for us onward. In the meantime, let's rejoice for the four Belarusian athletes who managed to reach the decisive stage of the tournament in its full complement (for a quote in the title of the article we thank Pavel Tsikhanau).
Success in the qualification group "A" smiled to Ilya Palazkov and Pavel Tsikhanau. Ilya had no difficulty in winning the round in Fencing, having won 17 victories. Pavel's result in this discipline was a bit worse (the athlete took the 13th line of the intermediate qualifying table of the "A" semi-final on the basis of the fencing results), however he gained the missing seconds in the laser-run, showing in the run with shooting the final fifth result. Ilya came to the finish line with the 24th result in time, but, thanks to his successful fencing, easily overcame the qualification.
The best result in the group "A" was shown today by the Russian athlete Kirill Belyakov, who took the eighth line of the table in swimming, the first - according to the results of fencing and the 20th in running with shooting.
In the group "B", Belarus was represented by Mikalai Hayanouski and Kirill Kasyanik. And, it must be said, in the opponents of the guys to get into the final today were the Olympic Champion of the Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro Aleksander Lesun, the European Champion'2013, bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics in London Adam Marosi, winner and prize-winner of Word Cup series of various years Valentin Prades. The list can be continued, however, the main thing for the guys was to overcome themselves, gather and confidently step into the final.
So it turned out: Mikalai Hayanouski swam 200 m with the seventh result according to time and realized 18 successful shots in fencing. This provided the athlete with a reserve for getting into the final, despite the 25th result accroding to time based on the results of laser-run.
For Kirill today fencing was given more difficult: the athlete showed the 20th result in his subgroup, after 10 successful fights. In swimming Kirill became the fifth, and laser-run finished with the third time in group "B".
The best in the second qualifying group was the athlete from Ireland: Arthur Lanigan O'Keeffe, who confidently conducted swimming and fencing (the second result in each of the disciplines), but a little saved his energy in the laser-run (the 26th result).
In total, 36 participants have traditionally qualified for the final, which will compete for the title of continental champion already next Sunday.
Well, we only need to cross our fingers and support the Belarusian team, because tomorrow (on the 22nd of July) women will compete for individual and team medals of the Championships.
Let's remind, Anastasiya Prokopenko, Tatsiana Khaldoba and Olga Silkina will perform Belarus during the individual competition, having successfully passed qualification the day before.
