Belarusian Pentathletes Kick Off European Championships in Istanbul: Relays Bring Fifth and Sixth Places

From August 3 to 10, the European Modern Pentathlon Championships are taking place in Istanbul, Turkey. On the first day of competition, August 3, the women's and men's relay events were held, featuring Belarusian athletes.

In the women's relay, our country was represented by Irina Nikolaeva and Milana Pevets. The Belarusian athletes delivered solid performances in individual disciplines, finishing second in fencing (244 points) and second in obstacle racing (319 points), trailing the teams of Italy and Hungary, respectively, in these events.

Based on the results of all four disciplines, the Belarusian women's relay team scored 1274 points and finished in 5th place overall. Victory went to the Swiss team (Anna Jurt, Ekaterina Jurt) with 1364 points, silver to Hungary (1356), and bronze to the Russian team (1332).

In the men's relay, Belarus was represented by Akim Gnedchik and Zakhar Sivitsky. Our athletes posted the best result in obstacle racing (369 points) and the second-best result in swimming (349 points), earning a total of 1478 points and finishing in 6th place in the final standings.

Gold in the men's relay went to the French team (1517 points), silver to Lithuania (1499), and bronze to the Czech Republic (1489).

Ahead for our athletes are the individual competitions. On August 4, the women's qualification will take place, featuring eight representatives of Belarus: Violetta Gureeva, Maria Gnedchik, Milana Pevets, Irina Nikolaeva, Natalya Savenkova, Vera Khodkevich, Anastasia Orel, and Irina Prosentsova.

The men's qualification will take place on August 5.
