On August 9, the mixed relay brought a vibrant conclusion to the European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Belarus was represented in this final event by Uladzislau Melkaziorau and Mariya Gnedtchik, who delivered a strong performance and finished in the top five.
From the very start, our duo demonstrated a fighting spirit. In fencing, the Belarusians scored 214 points (11th place), trailing the leaders but maintaining good positions ahead of the next disciplines [citation:1]. A real breakthrough came in obstacle racing, where Uladzislau and Mariya posted the fifth-best result (306 points), significantly improving their overall standing [citation:1].
In swimming, our duo finished with the 12th time (325 points) [citation:1]. However, the main drama unfolded in the concluding laser-run. Uladzislau Melkaziorau and Mariya Gnedtchik recorded the fourth-fastest time on the course (557 points), allowing them to finish with a total score of 1402 points and claim 5th place [citation:1].
The mixed relay was won by Hungary (Mihaly Koleszar and Blanka Guzi) with 1444 points. Silver went to Russia (Andrey Bobrov and Yana Soloveva, 1442 points), and bronze to Great Britain (Emma Whitaker and Ross Charlton, 1432 points) [citation:1].
