Aleksander Lesun - the Modern Pentathlon European Champion 2017!

On the 23rd of July  the strongest athlete among men in individual competition was determineds at the Senior European Modern Pentathlon Championships .

The right to perform in the final was given to all Belarusian athletes who begin the qualification of individual event on Friday, on the 21rd of July: Mikalai Hayanouski, Ilya Polozkov, Pavel Tsikhonov and Kirill Kasyanik. In general, 36 athletes from 14 countries competed for medals.

Good results in swimming allowed the Belarusians to immediately get good points: Ilya Polozkov with a score of 2:04,81 closed the top-10, Mikalai Hayanouski came after him. The first type won the British athlete James Cooke, who more than two seconds leave behind the nearest athlete.

Fencing brought disappointment to our compatriots. Only Pavel Tsikhonov finished the second type with good results and moved from the twenty-fourth place to the tenth. The strongest in fencing became Aleksander Lesun and thanks to this success he rose to the second place in the general event, and the table was headed by the Hungarian athlete Robert Kasza.

The bonus-round was unsuccessful for the Belarusians: all group of four lost their combats and remained without extra points. The victory in the round went to the leader Robert Kasza, who in the last combat made a decisive shot to Aleksander Lesun and got 3 points.

Riding with the maximum result (300 points) was finished by Mikalai Hayanouski. Ilya Polozkov got 291 points. And the best among the Belarusians athletes was Pavel Tsikhonov, who took the 13th place with 800 points.

At the laser-run distance athletes were competing for the first and third place. Contenders for gold Lesun and Casza for a long time had the similar results, but after the third shooting the Hungarian athlete broke the seven seconds ahead. The fourth line again athletes left together, and after 300 meters the Russian athlete left the competitor behind. As a result, Robert Kasza remained with silver, bronze went to the French athlete Valentin Belaud, who on the last lap left behind Bence Demeter from Hungary and the Lithuanian athlete Justinas Kinderis.

The Belarusians took the following positions: Pavel Tsikhonov - the 11th, Ilya Polozkov - the 17th, Mikalai Hayanouski - the 19th, Kirill Kasyanik - the 29th. In the team event our athletes were too close to the pedestal, taking the fourth place. Gold in the team - the Hungarians, the Russians took silver, the bronze was given to the French.
